RUAHA NATIONAL PARK

It has a population of different birds species of up to 450 and expected to increase after the addition of Usangu wetlands.

TOUR LOCATION

Being the second largest national park in Tanzania after Serengeti with 10300sqkm, its ecosystem rich in flora and fauna is thought to mix the nature of East Africa and West Africa. It was first set as a hunting reserve during Germany colonial era named Saba Game Reserve 1910 later on 1946 changed by British to be Rungwa Game reserve and after independence of Tanganyika, it was then named Ruaha National Park a word depicted from the indigenous language Hehe “Ruvaha” which means “River” which is the river that feeds all the Flora and Fauna of the park. Its a part of Muhesi-Kizigo-Rungwa ecosystem and currently Usangu wetland have been incorporated in it making it the largest park in East Africa Because of the size and the array of its ecosystem, the park is rich and may contain a population of up to 8000 buffalos the biggest than all parks in the country. Most of the game view is along Great Ruaha river that has the seasonal tributaries with Impalas, waterbuck, antelope, painted dogs, Lions, leopards. Grant Gazelle, Cheetahs, lesser kudu, Roan antelope and one of the largest population in East Africa of Greater Kudu. It has a population of different birds species of up to 450 and expected to increase after the addition of Usangu wetlands. There is a big population of yellow-collared lovebird and ashy starling that are the endemic birds. The park is accessible in both by road from dar es salaam for up to 9 hours drive or by air for only 1hr.It receives tourist throughout the year.
