6 Days 5 Nights – Wild Trips – Trekking – Maasai Land
This is the Only Active Volcanic Mountain in Tanzania. It lies in the wall of the great East African Rift Valley and it’s exactly in a point of a drift of the wall to prove a geographical phenomenon of Continental drift and Plate Tectonic movements.
It’s named from Maasai word of ‘’OLDONYO’’ which means Mountain and ‘’L’ENGAI” Which carries LE ‘of’ and ‘NGAI” God” so it literary means Mountain of God just off Loolmalasin mountain in Ngorongoro crater highland and Kerimasi. The waters from these highlands forms a scenic breeding grounds of pink flamingos in Lake Natron.
It’s always trekked in the night due to its high temperature during the day due to its active lava at the pick. It’s mostly trekked during the dry period of the year March to October.
Most of tourists like to climb this mountain with inclusion of other attractions that are close to this mountain including Ngorongoro crater, Serengeti, Manyara and Tarangire and birds nest grounds sanctuary of Lake Natron.
